We decided to close the Gite this year as we feared that people would soon forget social distancing. As the Gite is next to the house it would be difficult to deal with guests who think it’s life as normal.

Most of the folk in England that you see being total idiots are in the south of the country. Probably, if in London, they are not even English. Anne & I have no intention of going near a pub until things quieten down. Probably a month or so.
I'm not sure that's true. The large northern cities such as Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester had similar issues according to local press reports.

If you go by the national media UK doesn't really exist outside the M25.

Yes, it seems that similar things occurred cities and in large towns around England, idiots are everywhere.

That's a couple of humongous generalizations there BE. I thought ALBF had moved on.

I love the idea that Johnny Foreigner doesn't know how to behave in your Blighty. Did you see the news when Brits on the beaches of Spain had to be moved on by the police when the quarantine started? Also, I'd put money on it being one hell of a night in Newcastle Bigg Market last night, especially as the Toon were at home - albeit behind closed doors - and thrashed West Ham 2-2.

Except that pub culture isn't everyone's culture. Take it on the chin big yin. Your government has lost control and your capital is out of control. The rules were set early doors. No whataboutery allowed.
