A lot of people have Internet personalities, and would be completely different if you met them face to face, especially the ones who are more’ mouthy ‘ shall we say on line
I think true characteristics reveal themselves with time. I'm me, warts and all. I try to be funny, I swear too much and when push comes to shove I will be forthright. That said, I always get invited back. Usually to return stolen cutlery or clean the toilet.

Totally agree - I think it should be name and [at least] commune"

Hey Hal, we don't even know what country you are in

As to putting up details, no. Get enough crap from marketing people without opening the door to them and of course hackers and ID thieves.

I do not think having your real details up would be a good idea.

Edit the quote thingy went funny when I quoted Wilbros post who has pointed out below that Hal said the above not him

After spending the last couple of years helping (in an extremely limited way) Mysty and ATS with the forum I have seen some of the crap that's come their way from, let's be honest, nut jobs.

I, for one, like the shield of anonymity especially as you can never know the true intentions of other members. Sad, I know, but it's the world we live in.

The anonymity is important, while I'd be perfectly happy for most of the forum regulars to know who and where I am I have no idea who else is looking in.

For a number of reasons, it's not wise to reveal to much of yourself online. Even first names with less usual spelling can narrow a search down greatly. Google mine with my not too common surname and you find me, Aloysius McClumpha.

I changed my user name- an abbreviation of my real name - on another forum because some threads were picked up by the press and appeared in print in their newspaper. Not my name. TG.
I think it's legal for them to do this - look what's published from Twitter.
As for saying critical things about others via pm to the mods, if we can't restrain ourselves, best to write it to the person openly on the forum. Even if it's eventually deleted. Otherwise it's like children telling tales.
I remember having some spats with Bentley - I always came off worse.
ps I might change my username on here - how do I do it?
