We find talcum powder is an excellent ant deterrent.
Bought some Casino ant killer but I am sure they put ant food in it instead. We put it down and the next day the ants were more numerous and all over it!
Ants and filtered coffee
Re: Ants and filtered coffee
The idea being that they consume the poison and take it back to the nest. If you put it before their point of entry to the house they have no need to come in.
Bonus tip: follow the line back to the nest with a blow torch, incinerating the ants as you go. Expose the nest and fry it too. Circumstances permitting of course. Burning the hoose doon is extreme.
I'm not an expert but I suspect a creature the depends heavily on its sense of smell and collective thinking might be put of by the stench of thousands of burnt comrades.
It's strangely satisfying too.

I would just like to say that the method I learnt of yesterday which may be disappointing
for those that want exploding, burnt, drowned or poisoned ants
as it does nothing of those things instead the barrier of coffee grounds (on top of which you can squeeze some lemon juice) will encourage the little ants to change direction as they dislike both of those smells and they get to live another day yayyy

Must be made by the same company that produces the roll-on fly repellent I bought for the horses! - if you leave the lid off it, inside seconds it's covered with flies!
