For which the browser is, or was when I last looked, Firefox.

Adding to Niemyjt's advice (I use LastPass, which also is great) you might also use a VPN to protect yourself. Opera has one built-in.

I imagine - someone may confirm - that while Google may then keep the search history, a VPN prevents it linking the history to identifiable users.
Same old nonsense.

Yes, I think that's correct. When VPN encrypts or diverts something it makes it much more difficult for an interested party to snoop. I'm not up to anything naughty but I always try to make it difficult for Big Brother just out of principle.

I got it recently on a whim, but it seems quite private.
Same old nonsense.

Duckduckgo seems to be the go to search engine and browser combination if privacy is important to you.
I can't think of anything I want to hide though.

Maybe not, but I shall repost a link to a reply I gave to Stompie who also thought " if you're doing nothing wrong you have nothing to hide"

I use Lilo on my phone. It gives a donation to charity with each click. My clicks go to the the Périgueux SPA but there are many to choose from.
Chrome on the laptop.
