Belote - does anyone play?

Post by jardiniere »

Our local oldies club plays cards every week and now my husband is less mobile, we're thinking joining in with the card games might be a good pastime for him. We watched belote being played this afternoon and now I've found instructions in English online. If you play, would you say it's like whist or like bridge, or just completely different? I don't play cards and would like to find a way to explain it to OH.

I'm not an enthusiastic card player, but Belote is my favorite.
The basic rules are described here in English : https://ibelote.com/en/rules-belote.php
and here in French : https://www.belote.com/regles-et-varian ... classique/
It's a very fast game when you play with experienced players. At the same time, a lot of strategy. So, it's essential for you to "have" the words in French (trump=atout, colors, etc...). The links above could help !
You also have to know that there's nuances in the rules depending on the region, the local players... You have to ask at the beginning what rules apply.
You can play on line : https://www.cliquojeux.com/jeux28.php?t ... bel_anne=0... If you make mistakes, you will not be told off !
Best of luck !
You learn from your mistakes but it's much quicker and cheaper to learn from the mistakes of other people ! :D
