TAX D'HABITATION EXEMPTION.

Post by Crazy Diamond » Thu Apr 19, 2018 11:00 am

I really would appreciate some advice re the above. I understand in certain cases a person is exempt from paying this tax, but I'm unsure of the specifics. From what little I know it seems a person may be exempt from Tax d'Habitation dependent on their age and/or the combined income in the case of a couple.

Can anybody please tell me the rules regarding when one is liable to pay this tax and grounds for exemption?

Syd.

It's all based on whether you have what the state thinks is a relatively low revenue for 2017. Different thresholds are applied to people in different circumstances.

We didn't get a TdH bill last year unlike the past 24 years. When I asked the tax office why? They said because there is none to pay. I got their reply in writing and foncs don't make mistakes - do they?

I think Tax Hab. is being phased out anyway. So that no-one will have to pay it in the near future.
I'm going by personal experience of information from tax office staff, a few years ago. Which would have been when Hollande was president.
To the OP - there used to be a section about conditions for exemption on the back of your bill. Income limits were changed annually. There was no need to apply as the revenue people send the info from your income tax form to the tax hab people.
ps I've been contradicted several times about this, I'm only repeating what I was told personally, and also by letter.

Details are here https://www.impots.gouv.fr/portail/part ... s-je-payer

If you hunt around the site there is a table of the relevant figures somewhere.

This is another web site which gives a full explanation of the current rules for exemption including income tables, etc. and the changes being implemented in the coming couple of years https://www.bienici.com/article/qui-peu ... habitation
