Computer disposal

Post by Nifty »

I have an old Acer lap top that does not function
That I wish to dispose of. I have removed the hard disk and it is now destined for the tip. Could anybody please tell me if there are any other components on it, like the DVD reader for instance, that could be worth saving?

Most of the components of a laptop are unique to the specific brand and model so I wouldn't bother keeping much of it. Perhaps the memory stick(s) but again, tech has moved on and the memory would only suit older laptops.

The DVD reader, like the disk, is probably a component with standard connectors, so worth keeping if you think there might be a use for it. Although you'd need to purchase a holder with the correct connections.

The memory may be salvageable as well if it isn't soldered on the motherboard. Unlikely to be of use in your next computer but the memory (and the DVD reader)may have value on eBay.

Thanks for your thoughts. I had ideas that the DVD may be useful. Though, the truth is that I do not need any more stuff. I am quite happy that I have given it to someone who may get some use from it. :)
