We bought our new-build apartment from a British agent of the building company and got just what we wanted - top (second) floor, south-facing, overlooking the park, with a good-sized balcony and not too close to the pool.

The big difference between what we do and leggets is that the Notaires dont complain about Leggets making too much money on a deal
Sounds like they should though, €12K and 52K

I wonder what their commission would have been on that deal?

That happens, the house we bought for 1000 euros with merles is still with a French agency at 25000.
People do not always tell all the agents if they have chopped the price.

I knew a lady who worked for Leggets. She was an immigrant, but was bilingual french/english. Her mother was french. They had financial problems, and this was the only job she could get. Her husband was a farrier but didn't get much work. 2 young children.
She didn't last long, because she had to cover her own costs with car, mileage etc. Commission was low at first. They went back 'home' eventually
ps the French immo who finally found the ideal buyer for our last house was very helpful, having tried for a few years. Maybe he was glad to see the back of us! We did drop the price a little.

patf, Leggetts have a high turn over of staff, its almost impossible to make money with them.
Its the one thing that albmf has got right.

We saw it advertised on both Greenacres and French Entrée, got no reply after enquiring through Greenacres so ended up buying through the local (actually next door) immo who had advertised with FE.
They were the only two sites where we could search for the amount of land we wanted, not just bedrooms!

I see a few negative comments re Leggett. What is wrong with them and why would you avoid them
Because they seem to overprice houses.....by a lot.

They seem to have special 'Brit' prices.

I can find you a few if you want.

Why people would pay 30-50 k over the odds for a house from them just because they speak English is beyond me.

They also employ desperate hungry Brits who can't find themselves a proper job and pay them on a commission basis.

I find the company quite distasteful.
Doubt Leggetts are less ethical than any other estate agents, and I've dealt with a fair few, not just in UK or France. If a seller found that Leggett could make the difference to selling or not selling their property, they would use them. It's just a business transaction.
