Speed cameras

Post by mysty » Fri Jul 12, 2019 12:38 pm

Our local one was burned out during the green jacket protest and torched a few times before the GJ had started.
I have been away for six days but we have a fancy new one. Its taller slimmer, looks like it has cameras on it. Could be to catch a picture of anyone who tampers with it. Will take a picture this afternoon. It does not look cheap

Out and about this week and the only speed camera we saw was plastered in yellow sticky tape - so the Jilly Jones are still on the case :good:

These are the new superdooper cameras that are being rolled out sooner than planned as a consequence of GJ vandalism.
From a connexion article-
They can see across eight lanes of traffic, monitor several vehicles at once, and tell the difference between cars and heavy goods vehicles. Initially, the cameras will be set up to record speed only.

However, they also have the ability to take note of drivers or passengers who are not wearing seat belts, and pick up drivers who are using their mobile phone on the road.

They can also pick up illegal overtaking, and dangerous driving practices such as tailgating, running a red light, and driving in a prohibited lane or area.

The camera itself also has the ability to change places, to avoid drivers becoming habituated to their placement. For every operational camera, there will be four decoy options, and they can switch places without drivers realising.

The cameras are said to be almost impossible for drivers to avoid.
How much of that is true is different matter.
More than half a century ago TV detector vans could tell what you were watching and in what room. Technology has advanced to the point where they send a couple of goons from Capita to con or force their way into your home.

EDIT, Now I've seen the photos, maybe not.
Gone, but not forgotten.

I parked my car up a side track and had shades on but I do not look very French, will see if I get nicked next time out. It looks a pretty sophisticated camera might well do what it says in the article.
Previous ones have been painted out or burned with tyres. You would need a ladder or be a bloody good tyre chucker to get them over the top

The claim that they can change places on their own between 4 different locations is a good one, they must have built in drones

Re UK TV license, my property in the UK is empty, no tenants & no TV, they sent me a warning letter and they are still trotting out the same line about the detector vans with the cardboard radars on the roof :good:
