Yes, while my daughter was asleep, I got the model number, Googled it and yes the slot is for a micro sd card and not a sim.

However, whilst searching the net, I came across an Amazon Fire and it goes on to talk about installing a sim ad using it as a phone, so more investigating required.

It appears that in the US, you can buy a version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 via, AT&T, Bell or T-Mobile and you can have a phone contract, designed for the business market when on the move and out of range of broadband.

I also found this 10inch phablet with dual sim 4.5 star review on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07 ... IYR3&psc=1

So, excluding the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 route, I was technically correct, I will do some more research and check the reviews but it looks like I am onto something.

My mother is moving into a Retirement Living community in the UK, there is free wifi in the communal areas but not in her apartment, she only uses the internet to read the Daily Mail, check the weather and her emails, so I was trying to avoid her having the cost of broadband but something she can keep in touch with us, either by phone or WhatsApp, this seems to do it. I can set her up on 1p Mobile (on the EE network) and top her up when needed.

Discontinued in 2015. Read the reviews before buying may be wise

There is a 4g version of the Nexus 7 (2013) but don't expect to find one for much under about £120.

Even in 2019 it still performs credibly against the current competition and with a custom ROM like Lineage it can run Android PIE.

I've had a non 4g version since they came out and wouldn't be without if it and if expired tomorrow I'd very likely replace it with the same again !
