For some reason I was looking up about Mark Knopfler and found that he grew up in Blyth, his mother's and my home town. Though he was evidently born in Glasgow. his father was a Hungarian Jew.
Here he talks about playing guitar, I can't detect a Blyth accent:

I like them too - one of my favourites of theirs:

I remember reading that Paul Simon wrote it during a visit to England.
"Following a performance in Liverpool, Simon was at a railway station near Widnes, waiting for the early morning milk train to London. He had been missing Chitty's company and he began to write "Homeward Bound" on a scrap of paper.[3]"
I think the station was Wigan.
