Spot On True Meanings

Post by Nifty »

The meaning of the word Cockney is spot-on

The earliest recorded use of the term is 1362 in passus VI of William Langland's Piers Plowman, where it is used to mean "a small, misshapen egg", from Middle English coken + ey ("a cock's egg").[7]

Concurrently, the mythical land of luxury Cockaigne (attested from 1305) appeared under a variety of spellings—including Cockayne, Cocknay, and Cockney—and became humorously associated with the English capital London.[8][10]

How can you be so sure on the first allegedly remembered use of spot on. I read the other day, well that's a white lie as I do not read anything. after the storm told me  that religious Jewish teachers are getting concerned that if they have to teach the world is older than the bible or whatever one believes in. Then someone either got the dates mixed up when they were writing the bible / Koran or whatever. So getting back to your claim. It could be wrong.

Gone to better place, which, quite frankly, could be anywhere.

It reminds me my first British customer in France who desperately wanted to teach me Cockney...
He gave up because I was doing too many Cadbury's Flakes :D

You learn from your mistakes but it's much quicker and cheaper to learn from the mistakes of other people ! :D
