Heating oil.

Post by Crazy Diamond » Wed Aug 22, 2018 12:28 pm

Just taken a delivery (1030 litres) of heating oil and am still recovering. Last year I paid €0.666/lt, today €0.906. Strewth, that's a 36% increase. Just to rub salt into my wounds I found out the price per litre for a similar quantity in England is currently £0.5245. Both prices are inclusive of VAT: 20% in France, 5% in the UK.

I wonder if it would be viable for a group of individuals to organise a tanker to do a trip from UK to buy there ?

Unlikely maybe.

Fioul costs have gone up a lot in France, not helped by the approx 45€/1000 litres increase in TIPCE on 1/1/2018 https://www.fioulreduc.com/info-fioul/l ... lite/ticpe
Oil prices have increased generally https://www.fioulmarket.fr/evolution-prix-fioul

There have been similar increases in the cost of diesel for cars.

Was thinking the same thing just the other day and did a similar price comparison with fioulréduc, who quoted €902 for 1,000 litres. The comparison is not quite equal because British heating oil has slightly less BTUs (strangely France does use that measure) than French and of course there is the VAT difference. Additionally deliveries may also be over a longer distance here. Nevertheless, heating oil is still dearer than it should be, especially as bulk oil prices have reduced recently.

Don't worry about missing out, the tax is due to go up significantly in the coming years https://www.picbleu.fr/page/taxe-interi ... az-propane

.... all of which demonstrates the benefits of growing and cutting one's own wood and then burning it in a poêle in order to heat one's house.

Afraid not as UK heating oil is completely different. It's more like kerosene/paraffin, whereas the stuff here is pretty much red diesel.

If you've still got the trees, the moitié-moitié system has much to recommend it.
