Certainly smells, but I don't know for sure. I dumped Skype as soon as Microsoft took it over. They are just another unpaid agent for the NSA, etc.

I’m a regular user of Skype when in France (half of each year) to keep in touch with our grandchildren, not had a message like that.

Why on earth would DOB affect usage? Wouldn’t answer - not that I mind anyone knowing my advanced age! 😀

Skype do send messages to your contacts to remind them of your birthday - but I would be highly suspicious.

Best thing is to avoid any links in the email and go directly to Skype and look at your personal settings. If you want to divulge your dob you can do it there.

Even if it seems genuine, I often give a wrong date to confuse any potential misuser, I use the birth date of an old friend, so that I can remember it if I need to for later verification.

I dont give out any info which could be used to build up a picture for identity fraud - I thought I had been a victim a few years ago and it is amazing what the police etc tell you. Shame they dont tell you before hand. I dont use Skype but do occasionally use facetime - safer - I dont know;

I checked my Skype details and there was no d.o.b. So I made one up and that's that.

Recently gave up Skype as so often did not seem to work properly. Google "Hangouts" is much easier to use and works extremely well. You need a gmail account but could set one up just to use Hangouts.
