I have done first responder courses in France & learnt the international distress signals but never heard of that, is it really an internationally recognised sign or is it that someone would like it to be?

Sort of related there is a scheme in a lot of UK pubs and venues that if a woman is on a date and feels vulnerable they can approach a member of staff and ‘ask for Angela’ ie is Angela working, can I speak to Angela. The staff will put her in a place of safety and get help if necessary. Useful nowadays when a lot of dates are organised on line

I remember that being talked about quite a while ago because the landlady of our local pub is called Angela and it struck me that we'd need a local variant.

Doesn’t sound as if Angela is that well known...

But if someone who looked unhappy or distressed made weird hand signals I might manage to put 2&2 together even not knowing the hand sign.

Phone 999 or the equivalent and ask for a pizza.
