If its from Bricodepot make sure its well bolted down.
 Is that because it's so good someone might steal it or because it's so flimsy the wind might waft it away.

That would depend on where they are. They are pretty flimsy, although I buy from bricodepot they are not always the best of quality.
Leclairon have you thought about just building a simple wooden frame work and cover it with the rolls of cane you get to put against fences.
That would not be a permanent structure, if you need a base decking needs no permission.

Hi
Thanks for all the info. It is tempting to just put something up but we are worry-warts if we don't go by the book. However, the poles with the 'cane' fencing on top, sounds a good idea. It would not have a 'solid' base as we would either just leave the grass, or gravel, or perhaps some moveable decking to stand a garden table and chairs on.
We are quite keen on that idea - thanks. It would create some shade for us to sit under and we could make it more substantial than the gazebo.

I envy people who need to provide shade. Living in Brittany we don't have that problem. :|

I understand the rules re a Pergola attached to a building, but what about a free standing Gazebo ?

No worries Mike your Mairie is not a member so they will not be any the wiser.
Technically you need permission.

Most communes would not be bothered with a permit for a car port or a gazebo.
We are buying a property in the center of a small town in the middle of no where.
Its got an order against it, the roof tiles must be repaired before a date in June.
There are about a dozen missing. I emailed the town hall, told them I am buying the property and have permission from the old owner to repair the roof.

They want a DP put in before the work can start and thats just replacing the tiles with what was there before, see below. That's just dunb.

Bonjour Monsieur Mysty

Bien cordialement
Le Maire,
