I kept my (UK issued) EU license as was for precisely the reason you mentioned, it is valid till I am 70, being an old paper style I did not have to pay for it again every 10 years which I objected to on principal, I had paid for something that was valid till I was 70.
Changing to a French one would have involved costs, probably medicals to retain categories and renewal every 10 years IIRC, my plan was to do it maybe 18 months before I reached 70, Brexit changed that and "it is what it is" or "I am where I is"!
I don't view it as leaving it late, it was never an obligation and the eternal optimist in me believes that may still be the case. I simply didn't rush.

What can be so hard about driving like the French.
Speed up to giveway signs to scare on coming traffic.
Pull in as soon as possible before you complete the overtaking move.
Try to hide your front number plate so the car in front cannot see it in the rear mirror.
Perfect summary

Re: French driving licence
I've still got mine dated 26/11/ 2008 and I think it's legally valid in the UK until today. In spite of my age and three years since we left France.
But driving here is no pleasure so I stopped 2 years ago.
Never bothered to get a UK licence but husband has.
