Re: Hedgehogs

Post by Headers »

I have been following a couple of U.K. hedgehog hospitals on Facebook and Twitter. They are both emphasising that hedgehogs only eat slugs and snails when there is nothing else. These slimy creatures carry lungworm and the hedgehogs suffer a horrible death if they aren’t treated.
Both the sites recommend putting out shallow bowls of water and cat or dog food in a little feeding station that Cats can’t raid. They also say that mealworms are not good for the spiky creatures and left over bird food can cause calcium deficiency leading to death.

It’s hardly surprising the little guys are a threatened species.
