Allophone.

The Courrier Picard gave an incorrect definition by which we which live in France could describe ourselves as Allophones!

Une personne qui vit dans une communauté dont elle ne partage pas la langue.

But I think its a corruption of the original Québecoise meaning Locuteur natif d'une langue non autochtone qui n'est pas le français ou l'anglais.

Would a non intellectual (being kind with my words) French person understand if I described myself as an Allophone?

Isn't allophone a linguistics term?

The journal article was about students at a college with a special class for immigrants UPE2A (Unité pédagogique pour élèves allophones arrivantes), des ados venus de Syrie, Mali, Maroc, Italie..........
