Velux windows

Post by Stompie »

Our Velux windows have both blown. Have any of you replaced the glass and, if so, where did you get it? The French Velux website is proving less than helpful!
Getting them sorted would make a big difference upstairs.

Yes, we had to replace the glass in one of ours last year after a storm. We bought it from Leroy Merlin, but it wasn't cheap!

@ Stompie: the Velux website in The Netherlands used to have much information, also about Velux models of before yesterday. I remember cross reference tables very old - old - new and the possible transplant options. Somewhere in the frame there is a chassis number, how to find your code. You can input the type number (Dakraam type) and the dimensions (Afmetingen code) and click next (Volgende).

I ordered a couple of 'double glazed sealed units' online last year to make simple over door top lights. The Units were approx 75cm W x 60cm H and cost about 75 Euro each inc delivery (going on memory). Had to wait about 5 weeks delivery, but the service was otherwise OK.

Given that in all these years I have never even found a supplier in France, that price including delivery of such a fragile item is not bad, IIRC I pay under £50 inc vat per M2 for sealed units in the UK but with specialist glass, frosted, stippolite etc.

Where did you get them from?

Think it was Allovitres, and it was for one side frosted (opaque as our local window manufacturer insists is the correct terminology). We ordered online but had to phone them about delivery confirmation.

If they are genuine Velux, get in touch with them about manufacturing defects, they are very good at honouring their guarantee's outside the time frame.

Also have a look on your contents insurance, you may be covered.
