How deep? Deeper than the red gaine for the electricity, the regs mention one meter deep.

Have you checked its not just your security valve on the boiler chucking out water.
Or can you see the water outside

Depending on how and to whom you pay your water bill ie to a water company like SAUR or to your local commune via your Mairie, then there is a legal, monetary limit to what you should pay if you sustain a major leak.
As far as I remember you do have to inform your water supplier and state that you (or a plumber or whoever) is repairing the leak then you fill in a form - ours is online - and your losses are then limited depending on your usual annual water bill.
This stops people suffering enormous bills .. unless they don't use this system or are ignorant of it. I know this system works here as I told our friends, who have holiday cottage nearby, about it when they suffered a major leak and they followed the procedure to register the loss with SAUR. The bill for the water leak was very manageable .. don't know what the plumber cost though

Will try and find a link.
It is called a plafonnement de facture : https://www.inc-conso.fr/content/suite- ... re-facture

Good point, Sue. I wish we'd known about it. Their problem happened about 4 years ago and they paid the bill in installments for a long time.
