Re: Social Charges Reform

Hi, The article seems to imply that after Brexit , if the UK is no longer in the EEA, the exemptions will not apply to either pensions or investment income of UK nationals resident in France. However the France UK double taxation treaty , which is totally outside EU rules, says in article 25....."No...

Re: Pétain - hero, villan or both?

This is a difficult question; Pétain ,being a national hero figure was able , at least at first, to hold together a legally based government which was able to influence the Germans' treatment of the french population. Without that relationship , with no viable political body representing France (you...

Re: Social charges on investment income - court ruling

Hi, I'm surprised there has not been more interest in your post! See this article which gives a link to the full transcript of the court decision . It is somewhat long-winded , so go straight to the decisions at the end of the document. The article stresses that claims for CSG taken on 2015 income m...

Re: Life Annuities

Hi, Although there is reduced income tax liability on "rentes viageres" they are liable to full CSG on the total amount. For most people the CSG will far outweigh the tax advantage. As UK annuities are not exactly like french "rentes viageres" many people , either in error or intentionally, declare ...

Re: Assurance Vie... value for money?

Hi, As has been said , never buy Assurance Vie "over the counter" in a bank, they are generally poor performing and dragged down by excessive entry and management fees (to pay your helpful agent's commission). All the major online plans are much better , and backed by the biggest insurance companies...

Re: UK Voting Rights

Hi,
As Fitter's post shows ,a Bill to restore over 15 year expat votes has passed in the Commons and Theresa May promised that it would be in force in time for the next election "in 2022". I fear it may disappear in the chaos of Brexit.

Re: Nuisance Phone Calls

Hi, We are now having the same problem again ; mostly from the same number 0184885877. If you pick up it goes straight to "engaged". Research on line reveals that this is connected to a legitimate company called VOXBONE based in Belgium but providing online telephone services worldwide (as far as I ...

Hi,
He's an oafish , semi-literate, ignorant narcissist liar - no wonder he likes Boris, who apart from being excessively literate , has all Trumps other "personality" traits .

Re: Democracy, should people qualify?

Hi,
I believe voters should have a certain level of intelligence and knowledge ( that's why the vote is not given to five-year-olds). I do like Shute's idea , but would delete the religious qualification, as in many cases this shows a lack of intelligence .

"security check"

Hi,
I am getting mightily fed up with being subjected to a "prove you're not a robot" checks involving trying to see blurry pictures of cars every time I try to do anything on the forum -this after I sign in with my pass-word. If this goes on , I will give up.
